COMPASS BOX 'ORCHARD HOUSE' BLENDED SCOTCH WHISKY
Region: Scotland
What's So Special: Founded by an American living in London, Compass Box blends some of the best single malts in Scotland to create something truly unique. Based on the long-lost model of the Scotch whisky blending house, Compass Box believes that blending is a platform for creativity and their whiskeys regularly score spots on Top 10 lists of the finest scotches. Orchard House is Compass Box's newest blend and has created quite a stir in the blended whiskey community!
Tastes Like: Aromas of apple and pear dominate, with hints of pineapple, lemon and lime zest, and Earl Grey tea. Take a sip and note the malty and gingery flavours. These are soon joined by honey, wild strawberries and vanilla shortbread.
How to Drink: When neat or poured over a large ice cube, Orchard House makes for an outstanding pre-dinner malt. It will ably partner amber and pale ales, as well as swathes of soft cheeses.
What the Pros Say: Whiskey Monster - 4.4/5: "Lately, my palate has been craving juicy, ripe fruits every evening. That's probably because of my low sugar intake though. I was literally thinking of a big, juicy plum the other day and found myself at WholeFoods shopping for one. The next day, thanks to a friendly reminder from Whisky Goodness, I was finally able to get one of the newest expressions from Compass Box, the Compass Box Orchard House. Compass Box Orchard House is now welcomed in the core range of the Scotch Whiskymaker. The lead whiskymaker for this project is James Saxon, whose style I tend to find very vibrant. Well, Compass Box Orchard House is no different. I was positively overwhelmed with the whiskies it has in it before tasting. Orchard House has some of the distilleries I have always been fond of including Caol Ila, Clynelish, Linkwood and Benrinnes."
