COPPOLA DIRECTOR'S CUT 'ALEXANDER VALLEY' CABERNET SAUVIGNON, CALIFORNIA 2019
Varietal: 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Syrah, and 2% Petite Sirah.
Region: Alexander Valley, Sonoma, California
What's So Special: Alexander Valley is a long, narrow appellation with two distinct climates and a variety of soil compositions, including volcanic soils on the eastern hillsides, rocky clay loam at the western edge, and alluvial gravel on the valley floor. The southern portion of the appellation nearest the coast is cooler, while vineyards in the northern part of the appellation are warm during the day, yet chilly in the evening.
Tastes Like: In the film business, the “Director’s Cut” emerged as a means for filmmakers to present their own creative vision of a story. At Francis Ford Coppola Winery, Director’s Cut wines were created as a way for their winemakers to craft wines that would reflect the winemakers' own unique interpretation of the quintessential Sonoma wine. As such, this wine is more about the subtle flavors of blackberry, wood char, and spices than being an out-and-out fruit bomb like some of its Napa neighbors.
Pairs With: Ribeye steak, stuffed Portabello mushrooms, lazy evenings in front of the tube watching Coppola-directed films.
